WHY BEGIN THERAPY?

We begin therapy because some element of our life is unresolved, some symptoms we are experiencing, such as anxiety, lack of desire or ability to thrive, difficulty in soothing ourselves, and misguided (un)healthy behaviors have now become seemingly unmanageable. We are seeking guidance, someone to speak with, someone who knows how to engage all that is tumbling around inside our minds and causing us distress. We come because we seek to change and to feel better.Talking to a therapist is the act of safely expressing our deepest feelings, thoughts, concerns, worries and dreams. It helps to address feelings we may feel unprepared to express. Talking to a therapist lessens our isolation and begins to help us normalize our experience.
WHAT WILL OUR SESSIONS BE LIKE?

If this is your first therapy appointment, it can feel a bit like standing on the edge of a cliff, looking over into the abyss that is our feelings. During our first few sessions, we are beginning to sift through all the elements, experiences, values and beliefs that make up who you are as an individual. We begin to identify areas of strength and internal resources which we can empower and embolden to create a stronger sense of self and a more centered way of feeling. This is where we begin to further discuss the challenges and the reasons that brought you to making the first phone call and reaching out. These challenges may be assets or obstacles and our goal is to learn what best serves you and what no longer does. My approach is heart-centered, meaning the first intention is to connect and to understand. From there, the next move is to help you better identify who you are and who you want to become. The process can be a fine tooth combing, in a sense. We are maneuvering through what brought you here to learn more about what occurred before and what must change now.
DO YOU WORK WITH INSURANCE COMPANIES?

I do not accept payment through insurance. I do give clients, upon request, an itemized super bill at the end of the month if they choose to be reimbursed by their insurance. Please note the license I hold may not be honored by your insurance.
HOW WILL I KNOW IF WE'RE A GOOD FIT FOR ONE ANOTHER?
This is the most important part of therapy. You will know, I promise, you will know. Finding a therapist who works for you personally is an important process. In the Wood River Valley, there are several skilled practitioners who can help and support you. You will know if we are a good fit if you feel safe with me and you find yourself wanting to tell me more about yourself.
HOW CAN COUPLES THERAPY IMPROVE MY RELATIONSHIP?

Couples therapy creates a safe place to talk about your relationship. When we address the conflicts, fears and hurts we begin to heal the relationship. As a result, many couples enjoy their relationships more and feel an increased attraction to their partners. Coming together to discuss difficult feelings creates a shared experience and the opening of vulnerability strengthens the bond they feel with each other.
